With over 70% of the body's immune system located within the gut, it's vital for us to understand the importance the "gut" has on our overall health and vitality. Unfortunately, many women today are living with this term ("leaky gut syndrome") and are completely unaware of it! In today' article, I hope to shed light on this term and to provide you with insight and knowledge on what leaky gut is and how to naturally heal your gut in order to live in true abundance.
What is Leaky Gut Syndrome:
In its simplest terms, Leaky Gut Syndrome is a condition in which the intestinal tract becomes increasingly more permeable, allowing for regularly digestive particles to be released into your bloodstream (i.e. toxins, waste, and more). Additionally, Leaky Gut Syndrome can make it difficult for your body to absorb essential nutrients. Medically speaking, SCD Lifestyle defines Leaky Gut Syndrome as:
"The term Leaky Gut Syndrome is used to describe the condition of “Hyperpermeable Intestines,” a fancy medical term that means the intestinal lining has became more porous, with more holes developing that are larger in size and the screening out process is no longer functioning properly. The fallout results in larger, undigested food molecules and other “bad stuff” (yeast, toxins, and all other forms of waste) that your body normally doesn’t allow through, to flow freely into your bloodstream. So who get's Leaky Gut? Anyone living with a poor lifestyle may be susceptible to leaky gut syndrome. Unhealthy habits including but not limited to: stress, anxiety, poor diet and nutrition, food sensitivities, gluten, toxic overload, and more can all play a role in the causation of leaky gut.
What are signs + symptoms?
Signs and symptoms for leaky gut are going to look difference for everyone. However, a few of the common characteristics include but are not limited to:

Eliminate an Unhealthy Diet: Eliminate inflammatory foods, processed foods, gluten, high sugar, empty calorie foods, alcohol, and any other foods that cause inflammation to the body.
Nourish with a Healthy Diet: Fruits and vegetables, lean-organic proteins, hydration, bone broth, fermented foods (natural- not processed), increased hydration, and other clean foods.
