4 Healthy Pregnancy Snacks

Hey girlfriend! Today we are sharing 4 of our favorite nutrient-rich snack choices for expecting mamas. Not expecting? These snacks are still a great addition to your diet because they’re full of healthy carbs, protein, good fats, vitamins and minerals!  Did you know that during the 2nd and 3rd trimesters of pregnancy your body needs roughly 350 to 450 more calories to promote baby’s growth? When choosing how to get those extra calories you need to remember that all foods are not created equally and 350 to 450 calories can go quickly! So try to make the most of them by really focusing on nutrient dense foods. Four of our favorite snacks for expecting mamas are:

  1. Trail Mixsalty, sweet, crunchy and chewy! What’s not to love? Trail mix is full of plant protein, good fats and boasts a great balance of salty to sweet flavor that will certainly hit the spot! Try to pick or make a mix with organic fruits and reduced sodium!

  2. Yogurt + Fruit- Yogurt is an excellent source of calcium, potassium, protein, zinc and B vitamins. If you are sensitive to lactose try swapping greek yogurt for regular yogurt. We love greek yogurt because it’s lower in lactose, has probiotic cultures and contains nearly 2x the amount of protein! Not a fan of the thick, creamy texture? Regular yogurt is fine but make sure you opt for the plain variety! Don’t be afraid to get crafty with your yogurt recipes!

  3. Avocado Toast– Avocados are a great source of folate and potassium -both of which are SUPER important during pregnancy! They also have a lot of good fats and antioxidants. Choose whole wheat toast and add a hardboiled egg for good measure!

  4. Apple and Cheese- When in doubt you can almost always count on an apple being a good dietary choice. They are rich in phytonutrients, minerals, antioxidants, dietary fiber, vitamin C and B vitamins. Pair your apple with cheese and you have a healthy snack that tastes great!
