Increased Behavior? Try a Foot Rub for Your Kiddo

It’s no secret that after a long day, you’d want nothing more than a foot rub (okay.. maybe a glass of merlot for you too, Mom… right?! ;) ) But in terms of our children, a nice foot rub may just be the trick to help alleviate stress, behavior, and anxiousness. Let’s give it a go, shall we?

The power of human touch not only strengthens the immune system, but also helps the body to release “feel good” hormones and can instantly provide muscular relief.

Now, onto the foot rub!

Implementing a foot rub (or massage) into your child’s routine is an excellent way to help release built up tension, congestion, stress, toxicity, and can enhance mental clarity and anxiety. As an added bonus, adding a regular foot massage into your child’s routine can help develop a consistent schedule and bond with you; and might just be one of their favorite times of day! Here’s the run down:

-Get a nice jar of homemade lotion or coconut oil (*make sure this is natural)

-Gently warm your hands together with the lotion or oil and slowly begin stroking your child’s foot.

My favorites include:

*Coconut Oil

*Vitamin E Oil

*Raw Shea Butter

-Use the palm of your hand to cover the entire surface (both sole and the tops of the feet)

-Next, use your thumbs to walk up the middle of the foot (this hits pressure points!)

-Use your thumbs to fan up the middle of the foot

-Kneed the foot like you would bread

-Work with your thumbs over the tops of the feet and around the ankle

-Finish the massage by rubbing each toe and circling behind the ankle

I’d love to see you incorporate this at least once a day, preferably at night and possibly in the morning (but… we all know how mornings can go!) Remember, it does not have to be long. 2 1/2 minutes for each foot is an excellent start.

Let me know how your new massage routine goes, as I think your little one (and you!) will thoroughly enjoy it and the benefits!

Much love,

Jennifer
