The Importance of Family Dinners
Mama, what if we told you that there was an easy way to:
instill healthy habits
promote healthy weight
make a habit of engaging your kids in communication
prevent behavioral problems
enhance social skills
strengthen your family bonds
Would you be interested? Of course you would!! Well sister there is a way and it is SO easy! All you have to do is… have family dinners.
Yep, it is really that simple! Research suggests that shared meals have an amazing impact on the way that your kids eat, behave, communicate and interact with others.
We know that you have a lot on your plate, we all do but sharing meals with your man and the kids will significantly improve the quality of your lives! If your schedules do not allow for regular family dinners there are a few things you can do:
RE-EVALUATE. Are you overextending yourselves? Is there a way for you to cut back and/or eliminate some of the activities?
Switch it up. I know you LOVE that 6pm Barre class and yes, it is totally important for you to make time for YOU but maybe you can find a class that doesn’t conflict with dinner time. Can your hubby go into work a bit earlier so he can make it home in time to eat with you? Can your sign the littles up for activities that don’t interfere with family time?
Opt for family breakfasts instead of family dinners! The meal you share is not necessarily important. As long as your family can engage in conversation and focus on spending quality time together without feeling rushed then you are golden!
As we often say, pencil it in. Actually go ahead and MARKER family meals into your calendar. If it is important to you, you have to make time for it!
So please make family meals part of your routine! They do not have to take place every day. We think it would be best if you can take time to connect over a shared meal every day but, as is often the case, QUALITY is more important than quantity. Here is what you can do to make the most of your family meals:
Turn off the TV and put other electronic devices away! There really is something to out of sight out of mind!
Sit down. It is easier to converse when you are around the table.
Share something! Allow each person a chance to talk about their day. Try to keep the conversation positive and uplifting.
