How to Be a Gracious Host
Hey girlfriend! Tis the season to open our hearts and homes for parties, intimate get togethers, dinner and/or overnight stays. As fun and lovely as that all sounds, hosting can conjure up mixed emotions that range from anxiety to sadness, stress to overwhelm and frustration to resentment. We have some tried and true tips to stop those negative feelings in their tracks so you can be a gracious host and enjoy your loved ones all season long!
Remember the reason for the season. It is easy to get carried away with the chaos but if you keep Christ front and center it will be easier to focus on what really matters.
Pay attention to the little details. Stock up on your guests favorite treat. Select a theme that you know your guests will love. Hand make the favors. Thoughtfulness is KEY here and the possibilities are endless.
Set a budget and STICK to it. You might be wondering why this is a tip but hear me out. If you spend an inordinate amount of money trying to impress your guests, chances are you will be disappointed when they don’t notice all of the bells and whistles. In addition, you will be stressed trying to make up for the financial hole you just created. Sometimes simple really is the best way to go.
Keep perspective. The holidays are a magical time to share the story and love of Christ. Treat each moment as a memory in the making. Want to dive a littler deeper with this tip? Listen to this podcast episode on the secret ingredient for making this the best holiday season!
Be generous. Be generous in caring for your guest AND yourself. An overwhelmed and resentful host makes for an unhappy guest. So make sure you set aside time to tend to your own self care!
