Eat Local! ALL Things Farmers Markets

Ladies, I don’t know about you, but one of my FAVORITE things about summer is all of the FRESH produce that becomes so plentiful and EXTRA delicious. This is the time of year to get involved with your community and support local farmers. It is such an amazing feeling to prepare snacks and meals for my family with whole foods sourced, grown, and harvested locally by your neighboring farmers. I love getting to know the farmers, their processes, and exactly what my family and I are consuming!

Sister, if you LOVE this idea of healthy, local, organic eating and involvement with your community join our TRIBE. We are ALL about living your HEALTHIEST and HAPPIEST life with our Mommy Membership, sign up today!!

Sister, don’t be intimidated by farmers markets. It is such a blessing to have farmer’s markets within your community and I encourage you to go and talk to the farmers and learn! It also makes for a PERFECT inexpensive outdoor activity with your little ones! Let them help pick out the fruits and veggies and you will be AMAZED at how much more excited they are to eat the foods they got to pick out from the market! (Pssst….if you are looking for more outdoor activities for your kiddos, we built a list here JUST for you, all for under $10!!)

Here are the best tips when you eat local. We have ALL things farmers markets below!

1. Bring reusable bags!

  • While the farmers do bring extra disposable bags just in case, it’s always a good idea to help the planet out and get some use out of all of those majorly cute bags I know you have tucked away in your closet, girlfriend!

2. Arrive early!

  • Mama, you know that early bird gets the worm. Get your pick of the BEST produce early rather than trying to find what you need after it has been picked over. PLUS, you will beat the crowds

3. Take a full lap FIRST!

  • Vendors tend to change week to week and the produce changes throughout the season. Be sure to walk the whole market first, and see what is available that week. Compare it to your list and make note of the best deals between farmers with the same produce. We are looking out for your budget, sister!

4. Talk with the farmers!

  • Get to know them, and make friends. You will hear just how passionate and hard working these men and women are and their farming philosophies (Are they solely an organic farm or do they use pesticides). Added BONUS, they will more than likely share their tips about their craft and probably some AMAZING recipes.

5. Plan ahead!

  • While we love ALL THE FRESH THINGS here at Blossoming Mommy and Baby, be careful not to overdo it. You would hate to have all of that nutritious produce go to waste before your family has a chance to eat it all. (Have no fear, you can use any remaining fruit and veggies in our signature GREEN smoothie, I’ve got you girl!)

Do you shop and eat local? We would LOVE to see your photos from your farmers market adventures, sister-friend! Be sure to tag us #blossomingmommyandbaby. Can’t wait to see your finds and your new vendor and farmer friends you make!

XO,

Jen
