Lightening one’s hair is a rather trendy beauty regimen for modern women today. In fact, I am going to venture out and say the majority of our readers here at Blossoming Mommy and Baby have lightened those luscious locks at one point or another!

Now, ladies-  hear my heart, I get my hair done once every few months. Is it the best decision? No. But- I live for moderation and that is one beauty regimen I truly enjoy! Point being, I do take the time in between appointments (generally 3 months)  to naturally lighten my hair.

  • Lemons: Lemons are full of citric acid, which will naturally help your hair turn a little lighter! Feel free to use the lemon in whole (almost like you are painting different strands with your lemon!) OR use as a diluted mixture with water (I use 3T fresh lemon juice with 1 1/2 c water). Just work mixture through your damp hair and let soak out in the sun! Make sure you rinse at night with a great hydrating conditioner for some extra LOVE to your strands!

  • Chamomile Tea: Chamomile tea is an excellent (and traditional!) idea for all of you Mommas who just want a good soak overnight! This option is EASY-PEASY. Just boil tea as usual, let set, then dip-a-DO your hair for an overnight lighten!

  • Sunshine: One of the easiest and most profound ways to get an extra boost of color! As we approach the warmer months, GET OUTSIDE. (You know I always preach this!) Being outside in nature not only has amazing benefits for your overall health and wellbeing, but also for your hair- as the sun naturally lightens and shines!

  • Sea Salt: Mimic a day at the beach and maximize the POWER of this mineral! Mix 2 1/4 T sea salt w/ 1 c water. Transfer to your spray bottle and spray over your hair. Tussle with fingers, then go about your day! Don’t forget to rinse and wash at night!
