How To Give Yourself A Spiritual Check Up

Hey gorgeous!!! The New Year is HERE and we are rolling in full steam ahead! While the start of a New Year isn’t going fix you (read: The New Year New Me Myth), it is a good time to take inventory and dream BIG! This list is NOT meant to shame you, guilt you, or point out all of your wrong doings. This tool is intended to guide you in assessing your walk with God. I would encourage you to pray through each question and believe that God is going to bring you into abundant life in 2019!

  1. Am I Praying?

“Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.”

Colossians 4:2

Are you devoted to prayer? Whew, that feels like a loaded question! I know all too well that it is sooo easy to let the busyness of motherhood come before the things of God, but if we organize our lives that way (tasks first THEN God), we are not set up for true success. Sure, you might get your to do’s checked off, but without being connect to the God we are serving we miss the true meaning of our motherhood. Our motherhood should be FULL of meaning! Pray for yourself, your kids, your husband, your neighborhood, your church, your city/state/country, pray for the sick, pray for friends! Pray and simply converse with God. He so desires to hear your voice!

  1. Am I Reading?

“Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.”

Psalm 119:105

I was absolutely honored to have Havilah Cunnington on the podcast! She shared SO much wisdom on how to transform motherhood from messy to meaningful including TONS of very practical tips + tricks that are super applicable to the modern momma (listen HERE!). One of my fav tips that she shared is on keeping the line of communication open with God throughout your busy mom day. Havilah shared that after doing her morning bible reading, she would leave her bible open in a main area of her home as an act of saying to God: our conversation is not over. I stinking LOVE that! Reading your bible isn’t meant to be a static, boring thing that you have to do every day, but the beginning of an ongoing conversation with God throughout our day. I truly believe that time in the Word is vital to your mom life! Are you wondering how to get a quiet time in with littles? Read this!

  1. Am I Being Sharpened?

“As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.”

Proverbs 27:17

Girlfriend, I’m about to get real with you here! Are there things in your life that are NOT sharpening you? If someone you follow on social media leads to feelings of envy, jealousy, shame… UNFOLLOW THEM! If scrolling on Pinterest leads to feelings of inadequacy… Stop scrolling! Replace those things with truly life giving, iron sharpening things. Reach out to a trusted friend, listen to a podcast, read or listen to the Bible App (it’s FREE!), blast some worship music and have a praise party with your kiddos!

Momma, are you are reading this list and feeling discouraged? Girlfriend, it is OK if you are seeing that there are areas of your spiritual life that you need to work on. We have ALL sinned and fallen short!! God is not here to shame you (and neither am I!!). He is a good, good Father. His desire is to take your hand and embark on this journey with you.

I am praying that 2019 is your best year yet!!
